Geraldine M. Thompson, LICSW

Therapist / Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

With over 12 years of experience in hospital-based behavioral health, including serving as a psychiatric screener in Huntsville Hospital’s emergency department, I developed a strong foundation in assessment, crisis intervention, and diagnostic support. For more than 11 years, I also provided counseling services to children and families within the Child Welfare Division of the Alabama Department of Human Resources, where I supported families navigating trauma, life transitions, behavioral concerns, and complex family dynamics.

I specialize in working with young children through adolescence and recognize that each child communicates and processes experiences differently. My therapeutic approach is developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. I utilize child-friendly interventions to help children build emotional awareness, improve coping skills, and strengthen confidence, while also partnering closely with parents to support progress outside of sessions.

I believe parents and caregivers play a vital role in a child’s healing and growth. I work collaboratively with families by providing guidance, education, and practical strategies to help support their child’s emotional and behavioral needs at home, school, and within relationships.

I am committed to meeting each child and family with compassion, patience, and respect. My goal is to help children develop the skills, resilience, and self-understanding they need to thrive while supporting families in building stronger, healthier connections with one another.
